What is Planview ProjectPlace?

ProjectPlace is the collaborative work management solution from Planview that brings teams together to get work done. Whether a team is down the hall or on the other side of the globe, ProjectPlace aims to provide everything needed to set direction, communicate, execute tasks, track progress, and ultimately achieve goals. A key value proposition is to be one tool designed to work together rather than a collection of point solutions.

The vendor says the the product is built with teams of all size and complexity in mind, from virtual teams of five to entire global enterprises with tens of thousands of active users. ProjectPlace can be started in minutes and scales as new team members join. Since work types vary, ProjectPlace is flexible to fit the job at hand – traditional projects, roadmaps or unstructured work where groups just need to “get stuff done”.

Finally, ProjectPlace scales down the aspect of resource misuse, and this ensures results are intensively high.

Besides, ProjectPlace has an excellent time locating system, where every action is well planned and resources channeled to meet the needs. Further, ProjectPlace has the conventional way of demand planning by learning the market.

It was being used by the design department for everyday work. Their projects were being done slowly, so they hired a project manager, who preferred to use Planview Projectplace. We have been supporting the product and assigning licenses. Only English is the language for the software, and it is being used only in one location.

The main problem it has been addressing is the communication between team members and work prioritization. Instead of the work being sent to them by email, they are now planning the most important tasks ahead.

It is best suited for smaller teams that want to organize their work into projects. I now realize why the new project manager for the team chose this software over others. It allows for collaboration and work prioritization. Time management has improved significantly, and its UI is quite easy to understand for the users that don't spend a lot of time on software. Training new users in the team is also quite easy, and it gets coworkers out of their emails to focus on projects.

For teams that need to deliver projects urgently because of current events, the software works especially well. It allows concentration on a specific topic as well as teamwork, where many different individuals need to contribute in a short period of time.

I can easily see who is working on what, when tasks are due, and who is and isn't at capacity. It's completely invaluable to me as a project/account manager and allows me and my team to just get things done. For other projects, we found this software to be as well extremely useful as it allows external companies access as easily as internal employees. Using kanban-style task cards (boards) makes tracking project activities very easy!
  • Email Reminders.
  • Task Tracking.
  • To Do Lists.
  • Under the time tracking, it would be nice to have a set template that would load each week and not have to click a button to load the previous week's template.
  • Somehow making it more intuitive.
  • Having to add in each service line and each detail that I cover for every service line each week is a bit ridiculous.
It works well for a supervisor to keep an eye on their underlings. I think this is a great idea and a nice app for keeping projects in one place and able to create plans, get projects organized, set goals and so much more. I love that it is all in one place and can be worked on by the whole team. It is very convenient. I am able to organize my projects and complete them before a deadline.

Planview Projectplace is used as a standalone as well as with Planview Enterprise One in Flowserve. R&D and operational projects use the integrated method and there are other functions like legal and supply chain we use to manage patents and strategic projects. Users include people from all over the world and at all levels of employee, from associate engineers to C-level executives. Planview Projectplace has added lot of value for us, as most of our project managers fall in the "accidental project managers" category and this helped us to bring them onboard. We were very successful in delivering our organizational transformation program using these tools. It's been great asset for us!
  • Manage cards and boards.
  • Documentation.
  • Simple plan for simple projects.
  • Integration with Planview Enterprise One.
  • User administration needs to be easier. Deactivation and delete always confuses.
  • Custom field configuration at a higher level that can be defined to be used for a set of projects.
Planview Projectplace is best suited for managing smaller/simpler projects and definitely for "accidental project managers," who do not know all the elements of project management. Using cards and boards helps any user/engineer to manage their projects. In my opinion, this might not be appropriate for complex projects which might have very complex plans--lots of task relationships or interdependencies--and track the progress in terms of schedule and financials against baselines. That is where E1 integration helps!

[Planview Projectplace] is being used to streamline our Project Management approach across our global business. We are implementing across functions one by one to centralize our reporting. While there has been a learning curve, it has created endless opportunities for advancement.
  • Notification management.
  • User permissions.
  • Gantt charts.
  • Reporting extracts.
  • Linkage between workspaces in one portfolio.
  • More viewing/editing options for users.
It is great for global projects and for unique projects that require customization. It is not great for non-PMs to manage alone as there is so much opportunity for customization that it can be underutilized.

Planview Projectplace is currently in UAT and I'm learning to use it for my team and to share with other agencies. It's still very new. English is the language. Planview Projectplace is a Project Management Software which has agile tracking and standup meetings for accelerating software development and increasing agile methods. Overall, Planview Projectplace is a place where me and my team can plan and get everyone aligned. We can also share a timeline with the team then work towards the main and ultimate goal. Other than that, Planview Projectplace is also used by various other groups throughout my organization and even some departments use it for single projects.
  • Planview Projectplace streamlines interaction between activities within and outside the organization.
  • Planview Projectplace helps in reducing meetings because we are able to collaborate within the tool.
  • I am greatly satisfied with Planview Projectplace as the document management in Planview Projectplace is of top-notch quality.
  • When it comes to Planview Projectplace then there is training required as you will be learning how to manage everybody with one tool.
  • The ‘download’ option for documents is somewhat hidden and it would be nice if the ‘download’ option is next to the file or at least present at a more visible spot. I feel like pictures help a lot when explaining any information so pictorial representation is one thing that is missing in this software that requires attention.
My experience with Planview Projectplace has been great so far. It is the leading software in the category of Project Management Software and it gives the project professionals a simple yet powerful way to manage, track, and tackle their issues. I highly recommend this tool to those who are in search of an efficient project management tool.

I was first introduced to Planview Projectplace while working with a client in construction during the pandemic. The client runs multiple projects at a time that need several teams to work together and Planview Projectplace was their solution of choice as it was reliable enough to handle their multi-team projects. It was chosen primarily because it could connect teams of 50+ in different departments working in multiple locations on construction projects together. The ability to work together in real time improved their productivity and also helped them adapt to working through a pandemic. They primarily use English as the default language for Planview Projectplace.
  • As a cloud based solution, Projectplace is one of the few true multiple location, multi person project management tools available for large teams. The reliability for large projects (with teams of anywhere between 50-200+ people) was a huge selling point for this and I witnessed this first hand.
  • The Windows and Mac applications for Projectplace are well designed and work impressively well for a project management tool. I found most of the teams had either application installed on their machine and did not have any complaints about it.
  • Features like AI and project management viewing styles like Kanban, Ganntt and others make the experience customizable for each user and made them adapt it to their preferred project management style.
  • It is quite pricey for smaller organizations when you compare the annual cost, there are many other solutions that can get the job done for less. In this regard, it is viewed more as an enterprise solution than a solution for any business of any size.
  • While it is a good project management tool, it can be overwhelming to use if you have a lot of tasks and project info to sort through since it is not as intuitive as other project management tools. You may need to have a dedicated person to keeping bigger projects organized.
I would say based on what I saw first hand that Projectplace is a great project management tool for large teams and if you can afford it, you will reap the benefits. Unlike other solutions, it is designed specifically to handle large projects and teams and I would say you get what you pay for here. Construction, Finance and big enterprise can benefit largely from it. My experience with it was primarily in the construction industry so I think it very well suited to that industry.

We originally just tried out this software to see what it was like, but then we ended up using it because it was pretty easy to onboard our team for. One of the big things that we always focus on is customer support and they have great customer support to be able to assist should we have any issues. We are all remote but mostly across the US. Everyone works in English.
  • Great for time tracking projects to see how long each part of the process works.
  • Great for managing budgets, etc. for different projects.
  • Price is decent.
  • There is not a lot of training material out there, it really takes getting into the software and learning.
  • Best for team use and not necessarily for project management as much.
This is overall a great tool for everyone on the team to use in order to keep track of tools and make sure everything runs smoothly for our entire team.

The Marketing team used Planview Projectplace to plan and manage integrated marketing programs. It allows us to collaborate in one, shared place, with teams around the company including sales, demand generation and customer success. With Planview Projectplace it is possible to see the status of all the activities and projects at any time. The tool enables real-time collaboration with material sharing, comments, mentions and updates.
  • Project Management
  • Team collaboration enablement
  • Material sharing
  • Dashboard customization
  • User permissions
  • Document versions tracking
The tool is well suited for fast activities tracking, allowing the company to save time for project management and related deliverables. I did freelance work for a company in the entertainment industry that implemented Projectplace Project Management, and all of the employees were onboarded. The most similar product to this I'd used was Slack - Planview Projectplace was like going from Triple A baseball to the major leagues. The ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate users was impressive.
  • Organization of every team member in one place
  • Charts helped me understand what tasks I had to accomplish
  • The software made me feel like everyone was in one big room, working together as a team
  • It would be nice if they had a tier for small businesses (less than 5 employees) - I'd love to implement it as a composer, but it's a bit cost-prohibitive
If you're managing a large project with multiple sub projects and a lot of employees, Planview Projectplace is the perfect place to run it. Being able to see what everyone is working on - and where they are in the process - very quickly is vital to successful project management. This software has every tool you need to succeed.

Projectplace is currently being used in our SVS support team. It helps will the rollout of new versions of the SVS application as well as patches and other updates. So far, only one team in our company is utilizing Projectplace that I am aware of but it's likely that it will spill over into other teams in the future. Our team is primarily based in the West Coast United States region and English is the language used.
  • Document collaboration is a key convenience with this software
  • It provides collaborative workstreams so everyone can be on the same page
  • The Gantt charts are particularly useful for version tracking
  • It could incorporate more machine learning tools for optimization
  • It could provide more data visualization tools
  • It could integrate with another commutation platform more effectively
Any development or production team that involves lots of support and development. In our organization we utilize Projectplace to help manage the development of a software application that pulls data from other sources and generates dashboards to display the data for end-users. It would not be as well suited for individual-based projects or short-term projects.

We used Planview Projectplace for a bit of time looking for an alternative to some of the other project management and collaboration tools we used in our current workflow within our various teams. Microsoft Project, Asana, Microsoft Planner, are all comparable software with similar goals. Planview Projectplace is a suite of tools with high flexibility that allows your team to communicate efficiently and get stuff done!
  • Project Management
  • Collaboration
  • Portfolio Management
  • Gantt Charts
  • Better Integration with Microsoft suite of apps and user accounts
  • Custom Cells
  • User Interface
I think for new and mid-size teams, this software is an excellent suite of tools for a project team. Collaboration and data tracking are very excellent. Through its integration with the other software many teams use (Microsoft) leaves some to be desired to the industry standard of Microsoft Project

We use this on our team and we are part of a pilot program. The enterprise is evaluating several tools and our team was lucky enough to use this. This tool replaces a bunch of separate tools that were being used like MS-Project, Excel, Kanban boards and our ticketing system. The entire team had difficulty sharing information in the past but this tool makes it efficient and effortless. We have a distributed team spread across multiple physical locations in the U.S. and abroad. We currently have most teams working virtual so the physical Kanban board isn't practical. This tool eliminates [our] need for physical boards.
  • Collaboration
  • Issue Management
  • Project Tracking
  • Meeting Management
  • Learning Curve (not necessarily the tool, but the Agile processes)
Great for Agile teams. One thing you have to realize is you are not just implementing a tool, but a new process. You can't expect to get there overnight. I recommend that bringing in an expert to help deploy the tool and make the tool part of everyday life and process. The tool needs to be integrated and become how you do things versus something extra you have to do. Once you get the team using the tool as the "how you do things", team morale greatly improves and adoption increases as well as productivity and a number of KPIs / metrics.

Disclaimer here - we did a 30 day demo of the full version when trying out many project management platforms and wanted to exhaustively test the forms/intake requests and project management features for managing multiple departmental areas. We were using it just for our department. Just our campus location and we set it up exclusively in English (not sure if other languages are supported).
  • Request forms are adequate and customizable
  • Supports multiple views
  • Has calendar/meeting space/zoom integration
  • Kanban boards took a while to figure out how to add files, custom tags, etc.
  • The documents pane could use better organizational tools
Looks like it can handle a wide variety of workflows. [It] has a ton of tools and includes communication built in (messaging/Zoom video). If you have the time to configure it properly it could be extremely powerful.

Planview has almost everything we need to complete daily tasks and manage group projects. The integrated Kanban boards and communications tools make it easy to plan team projects and collaborate on documents.
  • Sharing team tasks and visualizing the flow of work.
  • Team members are able to stay in control of their commitments.
  • Optimization of business flow.
  • Requires an expert to onboard new users.
  • It is priced per user which can get expensive quickly.
It is a good work and resource management software that is capable of addressing the requirements of mid-market to global enterprises. You only need to have a technical team on the ground to help in onboarding new users.

We are in the process of configuring and implementing Planview Enterprise One, and Projectplace is being used as the main project management tool for this project. We are still in a learning curve, and the tool is being used now with a few users in multi-countries, but it has brought us some interesting new concepts and productivity. Once Enterprise One is implemented, the idea is to have them both linked and syncing so that Projectplace can be used for agile projects and also project document storage, as well as a preferred communication tool.
  • It shows the tasks in a time schedule view, allowing the user to switch between the agile interface of cards and an overview of the tasks and its correlations.
  • The possibility of having a dedicated document storage area with easy access gives a friendly way of finding what you need.
  • The mobile app is a good tool and an easy way to get on track with your projects.
  • Importing cards to the board could be simpler and easier, like copy and paste.
  • The name of the columns could be customized, allowing more flexibility to the organization of the board.
  • Additional information for the cards such as cost (money) would be desirable.
It is well suited for project management and as a communication tool. It helps to organize and prioritize tasks, and also puts a good perspective on the scope to be delivered. The ability to use agile methodology with an overview of the project is interesting for follow up, and this together with the possibility to integrate with a time schedule makes the tool powerful in managing control.

Projectplace was implemented this year to support project management of promotional display projects. At Bayer, we have a very seasonal portfolio and the volume of annual projects we have to support Promotional display activity and importance drove us to a solution to support that. Although we are still in a learning curve and have ideas of improving how we use Projectplace in the future I'm happy to say it has added value and provided efficiencies in managing the volume of projects we have. The tool is used across multi-disciplined areas within the Consumer Health division at Bayer Canada (English) and other divisions within Bayer are looking at it.
  • Web-based platform easy to use - mobile app is great
  • User feedback to improve Project place and monthly updates is a strength
  • Central repository for internal and external team members is very helpful
  • Reporting and Dashboarding - Initial presentation of the solution had us believing reporting / dashboarding was all set up ready to go when in fact it needs to be set up by the user.
  • Training documentation mainly all video and online - helpful but challenging for users that prefer manual type instruction

Project management - smaller repeatable projects - well suited

Project management - larger type projects not as useful

We use Projectplace for time tracking purposes. It shows our leaders how our time resources are being allocated and what we spend our time on. It allows our leaders to understand where our time is being spent and if additional resources are needed or if they need to be re-allocated. It is used by our entire Information Services and Technology group at our National Campus. We only utilize it in English.
  • Ease of use
  • Simple design
  • Quick input and loading times
  • Learning curve with timekeeping input
  • Does not automatically save
  • Settings are difficult to navigate initially
It's suited for an organization that is looking to keep track of their time resources. The IT department I work in uses the inputs from the employees to evaluate where the resources are being spent and how to re-allocate or add/remove employees when necessary. It doesn't require much effort from the employee and it is easier than busy-searching calendars to get this data.

We started using Project Place as a collaborative PM tool that was at the right detail-level for our IT team. We use the Kanban boards extensively to manage action registers and project level status. Since the IT implementation we have had other departments approach us about the using the tool and we now have three departments making use of our account. Overall it is an excellent fit for our needs.
  • Kanban boards are fantastic for task level tracking and assigning tasks to team members.
  • Portfolio view allows me to get a 10,000 foot view of all projects in our technology division.
  • Being a cloud-based product allows us to easily scale and collaborate with teams instead of over-using email.
  • The interface for editing projects has a little bit of a learning curve but once you have it down it's fine.
Suited for teams, department heads, projects. Less useful for enterprise budgeting but that's what Inotas' PPM tool is for.

We use Projectplace for most of our projects within our organization, across all business areas. One big reason is that it is really easy to connect people from different organizations to a common workplace, without having to create accounts, install third party solutions etc. An important factor is also that Projectplace is easy to understand, so the learning curve is not steep.
  • Easy to connect people.
  • Easy to learn.
  • Continually evolving.
  • Possibility to create different project templates.
  • Possibility to select when the "update status" email will be sent.
  • Better/clearer support for SCRUM.
  • Ability to archive (and thus hide) finished cards on a board.
I can't find a scenario where you can't use Projectplace for collaborative work.
